The Boston Police Department (BPD) will be converting its analog radio system to a digital encrypted radio system on August 9, 2025.
This means that Boston Police radio transmissions will no longer be available via traditional analog radio scanning equipment. To continue to provide transparency to our communities, BPD will provide publicly accessible audio feed of our radio system via RapidSOS. This service does not require any fees, logons or a user account to monitor/listen.
The online feed provided by the department will make it easier for people to monitor the BPD dispatch channels. No specialized knowledge or scanning equipment will be needed. The feed will be delayed slightly to prioritize public and officers safety. It will help ensure first responders are the first to arrive on what may be a dangerous scene and that perpetrators will not be alerted to officers’ activity.
The feed can be accessed by going to
http://radio.rapidsos.com/bostonLinks will be easily accessible from our website, BPDnews.com and our social media channels, once it goes live on August 9th.
BPD is working with our partner agencies to ensure continued coordination and interoperability by radio without a disruption in services.
The upgrade to digital radio is being made based on a number of factors which include, but are not limited to, the following:

Updating antiquated equipment

Providing better coverage

Lessening background noise and static

Preventing interference/interruption that is unintentional or intentionally done by bad actors

Preventing bad actors from monitoring police activity
