Titel: PDW through VirtualBox
Bericht door: SBS01 op 30 november 2020, 17:59:24
Hi

I've been trying to run PDW through Virtualbox with an XP SP3 VM. While everything installs correctly and the slicer install seems to settle in correctly on the right COM port,  i cannot get the application to  get data from the the slicer. I confirmed that the COM port is working using another  device that is controlled via the COM port and it was flawless.

Has anyone had any success using a VM to run this program?

Thanks

What kind of 'slicer' do you use?

For the 2 and 4-level interfaces, PDW needs direct hardware access to the serial port, since the port is used in a non-standard way. I.e. it doesn't observe the standard RS-232 protocol.

Using a virtual machine introduces a hardware abstraction layer, where direct access to the serial port hardware is not possible. So, it's not going to work.

Thanks for this information, I guess I'll be building a little XP PC for this monitoring.  :)
